The Back Garden in Mid-July
By mid-July we are deadheading, cutting back dried foliage, watering, pulling weeds, and doing daily maintenance, mostly before the day gets too hot. Then we can spend time enjoying the garden, especially the flowers that fill all the garden beds. The back gardens face the morning sun and some areas receive sunshine all day. Drought tolerant plants fill the rockery and exposed areas. Plants that require some protection are watered using microjets and have some form of water retention (small walls, boulders, shading shrubs, and mulch). Adjustments are necessary each year since the summer heat spells seem hotter and longer. Some featured flowering plants are shared here.
The first gallery has lilies, clematis, gazania, perennial sweet peas, honeysuckle berries, thyme, blue flax, stonecrop, and portulaca. Click an image for a lightbox view and a caption.
The second gallery shares more flowering plants, including meadowsweet, penstemon, liatris, snapdragon, endive, snapdragon, and portulaca.
Over the winter, we will focus on some of these plants as features. Clematis and bitterroots are available on the website now. Thanks for visiting the website.
